Cannabis is becoming more and more part of every person’s life in the US, Canada and more and more abroad. It’s no surprise that lifestyle legend Martha Stewart has partnered up with Canopy Growth to continue making cannabis an even bigger part of our lives. Stewart will be an advisor to help develop products not only for us humans but also our pets. The FDA has yet to approve a law for CBD to be put in food but beverage companies are already planning on creating pot infused drinks. This is not the first time Canopy has teamed up with a big name. In 2016 the company team joined forces with Snoop Dogg to create Leafs by Snoop.
Could the historically neutral country lean in favour of cannabis? The governing Federal Council proposed a pilot project in municipalities to evaluate the good and the bad with alternative regulations. There are around 200 000 people in Switzerland that consume cannabis despite it being illegal. This has created a hole for the black market to fill and leads to high costs for drug enforcement. Country wide legalization still seems far off as these projects can run up to 10 years long.

New Jersey Senator Cory Booker has introduced the Marijuana Justice Act of 2019 with California Representatives Ro Khanna and Barbara Lee. The bill would remove marijuana from the DEA’s controlled substances list and make the drug legal nationwide. Another important factor of the bill is that it would expunge any weed related criminal records at a federal level. Hopes can’t get too high though, in 2017 Booker introduced a bill by the same name and it did not get past the senate and with a Republican controlled senate the drug faces a true uphill battle.
