As the state of New York moves towards legalizing marijuana recreationally District attorneys are making moves to dismiss low level charges. The charges dropped are for people with violation and misdemeanour possession charges to more than 30 people that have outstanding warrants for missing court appearances. The move, by the buffalo court follows the footsteps New York City recently took. The mayor of the city of Buffalo ordered the police to stop arresting people for low-level marijuana related misdemeanours. This movement is creating hope for people already charged with minor marijuana charges to be either acquitted or for the charges to be dismissed. This really could change lives.
In a growing trend among democratic presidential candidates for the 2020 election, Sen. Amy Klobuchar has announced her support for legalizing marijuana at a federal level. She stated that every state should have the right to determine the laws within their borders. The senator has softened her stance against the drug since the days when she was a prosecutor in her home state of Minnesota until now, even supporting legalization. We can assume that the reasoning behind this is not only the incredible economic opportunities legalization can create. Attracting young voters to go out and vote will be big for the democrats in the upcoming election if they hope to beat Trump.
